Stewart Downing stats not that bad – part II

August 10, 2012

A wile ago I linked to an analysis that showed that Stewart Downing perhaps didn’t do that bad last season. Yes, he had no (!) goals and assists, but was that entirely his fault? I think that Downing is a quality player and was in a sense relieved when more analysis strengthened my hypothesis that he didn’t do that bad if you dig deeper into the numbers. At least he did as good as Theo Walcott, Adam Johnson, and Ryan Giggs in most metrics and a lot better in some. For example, he had significantly less unsuccessful touches (compared to total touches) than the other three.
