Stewart Downing stats not that bad

June 11, 2012

Throughout the PL season Stewart Downing has been massively criticised from fans and pundits. I have always felt that the critique has been unfair and that his extremely bad stats (no league goals or assists over the entire season) have not been entirely his fault. This blog post confirms this.

Downing has, for example, created eleven clear-cut chances this season. This is at the same level as the big stars in the league and at least four more than any other Liverpool player. I’m not saying that he has have a tremendous season, but sometimes there are other reasons behind bad scoring stats than bad individual play.
