Pick of the day #47: Silkeborg IF – FC Copenhagen

March 31, 2013

F.C. Copenhagen (or short FCK) is the big club in Scandinavian football. Tomorrow they will travel to Silkeborg to grab another three points in their way to become Danish champions. The difference in quality between the two sides is huge and with four defenders missing in Silkeborg I cannot see FCK loosing points here.

Silkeborg sit rock bottom in the Superliga and are in desperate need of points, but I do not believe they will have a chance against FCK. They have 21 points in 24 games so far and after a surprise win against Aalborg in the first game after the winter break they have lost three straight games (3-1 away to FCK, 1-0 away to Randers, and 0-5 at home to bottom contenders SønderjyskE). In eleven home games they have W2-D1-L8 (8-23 in goals).

Their list of missing and doubtful players is long. Solic (Gk, 0 games), Jakobsen (Df, 10+3), and Rasmussen (Df, 9+0) are reported to be injured or sick. Kiilerich (Df, 12+1) and Poulsen (Df, 19+2) are suspended. Moreover top goalscorer Pourie (20+1 games, 10 goals) is doubtful!

FCK top the league with 57 points in 24 games. Away from home they have W5-D5-L1 (20-15). They had three straight wins after the winter break before only getting a 2-2 draw away to FC Midtjylland (after being 0-2 down late in the game). They have Christian Bolaños out with a knee injury. He is one of my favourite players in Scandinavian football, but they have enough quality in the squad to cover for him.

MarathonBet offers 1.99 for FCK -1 (Asian handicap) and that is way too high in my opinion. I spend three units here, a wager I don’t use very often.
