Pick of the day #27: Rapid Vienna – Austria Vienna
The Wiener (Vienna) derby is coming up in Austria between the countries two most successful clubs (regarding national titles). Today the game is played at Rapid Vienna’s home ground, the (Gerhard) Hanappi Stadion, but I do not think that Austria Vienna will lose and went for the DnB bet for the away team here (the bet was placed yesterday). To that I add one unit on a draw or away win today.
This is the first game after the winter break. At the moment Austria top the Austrian T-Mobile Bundesliga with 15-3-2 (wins-draws-losses) and 8-2-0 away from home. The have played a number of friendly games during the break with mixed results, but closed with a 4-0 win against Ruzomberok one and a half week ago. All four goals were scored by striker Roman Kienast in that game.
During the winter break Austria have lost striker Roland Linz to Muangthong United in Thailand, but have got their former player Nacer Barazite back on loan from Monaco. They have forward Thomas Jun (19 games, 5 goals) suspended today.
Rapid Vienna sit third in the league (12-2-6). During the winter break they have played three friendly games and won all (last 2-0 to Ruzomberok less than a week ago). They have all players fit to this game, but I believe that Austria have a slightly better squad and go for the away team.
The teams have met twice in the league this season, both with Austria wins (3-0 away in August and, 2-0 at home in October). Last season the teams played each other four times in the league with three drawn games and one Austria win (3-0).
