Pick of the day #16: Ethnikos Achnas – APOEL Nicosia
UPDATE: The game has been postponed due to heavy rain. New date is tomorrow, Sunday 11 November 2012.
Let us go back to Division 1 in Cyprus and APOEL Nicosia who didn’t let us down a couple of days ago when they defeated Ayia Napa with 4-1 after 4-0 in half time. Today APOEL will travel to Dasaki Stadium in Achnas to beat Ethnikos Achnas.
APOEL is one of three outstanding teams in the Cypriot league. They have seven wins and one draw so far with 23-3 in goals. Away from home they have three wins and one draw with 11-1 in goals. That is by far the most away goals in the league. Their only draw was against local rivals Omonia Nicosia (0-0).
Ethnikos Achnas is placed eleventh in the league (of fourteen teams). They have no wins so far, but four draws and four losses with 4-10 in goals. At home they have two draws and one loss (2-3 in goals). Thus, they are strong defensively, but the difference in quality between the two teams is huge and APOEL should win with at least two goals.
Ethnikos Achnas have a anonymous squad for me. The only player I know about is Fredrik Risp, a decent Swedish central defender who played for numerous European clubs, especially in Turkey. Today Achnas will have defender Ilia Elipidoforos out due to a yellow card ban. APOEL have no players out due to suspensions or injuries according to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk.
